Plant Challenge

Question: What does it take to get plants to oxygenate like this? This fast growing super oxygenating specimen is Ceratopteris thalictroides, variously called Water Sprite or Oriental Water Fern. Family: Parkeriaceae (water fern family), found in the tropics, worldwide.

Want to give it a try? Madison Aquarium Gardeners Club can provide you with a loaner kit consisting of a 20H tank, lights, substrate, plant nutrients and test kits.

You can try a number of things: Different photo periods, nutrient levels, CO2 or no CO2 and whatever other variables you can identify. Keep a log of your observations. I can take pictures occasionally and in a couple of months, you can share your thoughts with us.

If you'd like to try this particular experiment or another one of your choice, contact John Glaeser:   233-5182
